Essentials to buy when you are expecting a baby
Are you expecting a little one? Do you feel like time is running out, and you still need to get your house in order? Here are a few items we recommend every mum gets before they welcome their newest addition to the family.
#1. A crib, bassinet, or moses-basket
Even if you plan to co-sleep, a baby still needs a sleeping space of their own. If you are a sound-sleeper, and want to train your child to sleep on their own from an early age, we recommend purchasing a crib. This is the safest option, and can be used for many years to come. If you are interested in co-sleeping, and want a portable option - a moses-basket might be for you! Check out this incredibly cute moses-basket. Last, but not least, you can choose to purchase a bassinet. Just be sure to keep in mind that babies can outgrow a bassinet within the first 6-8 months, so mums - be prepared to buy a crib before the baby turns 1!
#2. A Safe, Non-Toxic Play Mat
A play mat is essential to any nursing room, living room, and play room. Kids are very good about putting anything and everything in their mouth, and we as mothers can try our best to limit this - but as they grow, the job only gets harder and harder. Our children need safe zones to crawl, explore, and be free! Cushmat, a safe and non-toxic baby mat is just what you need. They have so many different designs to choose from, and can also be used as your very own fitness mat! You can check them out here!
#3: 100% Organic Swaddle Blankets
As you can probably already tell, I am someone who cares about what goes in and out of a child's body. This is why I recommend all organic blankets, clothes, and non-toxic items. Whether you are looking to buy 100% organic blankets with super cute designs, or air on the side of extreme caution and purchase never-dyed organic swaddle clothes - you can’t go wrong. Just be sure to buy at least 10 swaddle cloths - babies tend to drool, and spill all day long.
#4 Breast Pump and Bottles
The Medela breast pump is the #1 mom-recommended brand, and for good reason. This pump is designed for mums who pump several times a day, and need the comfort of an adjustable speed and vacuum control. If you are looking for a more wearable breast pump, check out Willow. This all-in-one pump has a no-spill technology that allows you to wash dishes, and clean up around the house while pumping at the same time.
#5 Pampers or Cloth Diapers
Whether you are choosing to go all-natural with cloth diapers or sticking to disposables, make sure you are well stocked up weeks before your expected delivery date. Unless your baby is super tiny, there is no need to buy more than one pack of newborn diapers. Your baby will most likely outgrow these in less than a few weeks, if that.
